Perth

Cottesloe Beach. A guy was taken by a shark here 2 years before so no swimming for us
Driving from Yanchep park 80kms to Perth we followed the coast. Lots of new bright houses looked very impressive. Stayed at caravan park 7kms from city centre. Met the Warnambool family from Tom Price etc. Drove into the city after dinner and parked on the hill to Kings Park. Free after 6pm. Walked along the business street. Very big office blocks and really clean. Walked through London Court an olde worlde London street, past the station to the theatre area. From there a restauarant street led through Northbridge. Very lively and reasonably priced. Combination of Swanston and Lygon Streets in Melbourne. Had a plate of Nachos at a Mexican place and listened to music. Drive back to campground was easy but noise all night from a big road and the airport.

From Kings Park to the city

After a morning sitting in the garden of the Freo arts centre in beautiful sun we drove the 20kms to Perth. Stopped along the way at a fishing camping shop and bought a new tent as ours was starting to wear out with zip problems, tears and pole splits. Parked near the Parliament building which is close to Kings Park and free on Saturday. Walked past a DFO and finally got a new head torch from Katmandu. Through Northbridge stopping for a few minutes to watch the muppets movie with lots of kids in Northbridge Plaza. Dinner at the hawkers cafes. Curry for $11 and pretty good. Enough for one day and back to campground.

During the night the foirecast rain arrived with a vengeance. Poured down and super windy and our old tent was fine. Back into Perth in driving rain stopping at Coles Express for coffee and hungry jacks for egg muffins and wifi. Parked in the centre which is free Sunday for 2 hrs. Museum then moved car. State library and art gallery moved car. Art gallery great. Parked near bell tower. Walked past hoardings to get there in super strong wind. Tower closed and when we turned back the hoardings had blown across the path. We could have been hurt and were now stuck. Had to crawl under to get out. Big rain storms as walked past governors house, very olde English. Went into St Georges cathedral where choir were practising. Wonderful. Again like a cathedral in England. Back to campground to find the tent is perfect and has survived big winds and rain. Quick walk to the jetty after dinner which is like a scene from the French Lieutenants woman. Cold and wet and a night for the camp kitchen.
