Whales, wildflowers and a bouncy castle

Fish and chip supper on the beach at Kalbarri with a gorgeous sunset

Walked 16kms return from Eagle Gorge to Natural Arch. Stunning. Walking along the cliffs in the sun. You couls see the curve of the earth over the blue, blue ocean. Limestone on top of red sandstone made the cliffs fantastic.

Out to sea-humpback whales on their way south.

Wildflowers in the dry soil

So many flowers in this harsh landscape

Strolling along Dave almost jumped over the cliff when he almost stood on a bob tailed skink.

When it couldn't get better we saw pods of dolphins.

More cliffs and wild flowers as we walked back. Wonderful

Back at the campground for an ice cream from Mr Whippy and a bounce on the bouncy castle with instruction from a young girl

The bouncy castle at the Caravan Park. The little girl told Dave not to be scared

Ice cream from the musical ice cream van
Another day and another walk on the cliffs watching the whales. This time they were close to the shore

Leaving Kalbarri we drove south. Stopped at Pink Lake which as you can see is very pink. Port Gregory was a small port behind the dunes

Very windy and salty foam blowing on the lovely car
Lynton and the convict hiring station from 1860. Mrs Anna of King and I fame lived here for a year when her husband was manager

Kalbarri

Has this bird been painted? At free camground
80 kms on we stopped at the Billabong roadhouse. Looked nice but no one there at the time. A further 110kms down the road found the free camping area was good for us. Put the tent up behind some low trees in strong wind. Hot spicy dinner and a campfire were good. Next morning found one of the vans nearby was Margaret’s. We had a good chat with her having met her in Broome and at Degraves camping. Sunny but still a cold wind. Very strange to be cold after months of 30 degs.

On the road to Kalbarri turn off to Hawks Head lookout on Murchison gorge. No sign of a gorge in beautiful landscape. Lots of different bushes and colours. White and red banksia trees and colourful wildflowers. A walk down into the gorge is lovely. Big gum trees in the bottom and a lovely river though it is only just flowing.

I like to pick wild flowers
Arrive in Kalbarri town around lunch. Check out the campsites and settle on Kalbarri Tudor top Tourist. Great facilities. Put lots of guy ropes on the tent as we were worried it would blow away but no problem. Neat, modern , small town. Sandunes at each end of the beach, a big lagoon in front and behind the big white waves. Steak for dinner is tough as. It was cheap. Fantastic TV room but the news is about the terror suspect being shot dead in Melbourne after attacking two police.

Wed and it is still cold. The days are getting slightly longer as it is light at 6am and didn’t go dark until 6.30pm. TV weather forecast predicts 26degs today instead of 18.

Great day. On the way to the beach Dave sees a doctor and finally pays $71 for an appointment. $37 came back through medicare. Blood tests and back Friday for a bulk billed follow up. Walk along beach with waves crashing around. Read the story for a dutch ship that was wrecked near here about 1670. Back at the campground there is an ice cream van and a little lad with a dislocated shoulder said he did it on the bouncy castle. Dave thinking twice about having a go.
