Broome 2nd part of the week

Spend a few days here unwinding after lots of driving and moving on. Walk along Cable beach which is beautiful in the bright sun. Long long stretch of white sand and turquoise sea. Happy hours at the campground are good as everyone gets together about 5pm for a couple of hours of chat. Some people have been here for three or four months although we were told most of these have left to head home. Campsite rates drop from 1 Sept and it is getting quieter which is good. Other people have been working their way around Oz for a few years.

Friday night was half price meals at the Roebuck. We went with Peter and his wife. Great company and meal. After to the RSL where Dave managed to resist the $10 BBQ. Sat morning the Courthouse maket was fun with a good band playing. Looking for the museum we found the sisters of St John museum. Amazing story of nuns coming from Ireland and living in this area since @ 1900. Sat afternoon was camel racing. Like a horse racing day with camels. Same atmosphere and smartly dressed people.

On the second attempt we found the dinosaur footprints at Point Gautheme. Only visible for one hour at low tide. Footprints, rocks, sea all splendid.

Footprint about to go under the rising tide
Walked along cable beach for 4 kms and had a delicious calamari and chips at Zandars. 4kms walk back in midday sun was good once we left the red hot sand dune path and went back to the beach. Afternoons in the library using air con and wifi.
Dave walked all over Broome until he got his bearings and had seen a few sights. Pearl industry had been big here and many Japanese came about 1900. Japanese and chinese cemeteries.Tried going to the Sun cinema the oldest open air cinema in world. The cheap Tuesday offer was for another cinema so declined to come back another night for a better film.
