Port Lincoln

Sea lion enjoying the sun near Point Avoid Coffin Bay National park

We moved on from Coffin Bay to Port Lincoln four days ago and have enjoyed the place despite changeable weather (still)
Top Tourist campground is good with a great kitchen and sea views but the lack of shelter from the wind was a problem.

Level camp site before the damaging winds

Sheltered from the wind but on a hill
Town is very comfy. 30mins walk along the coast from the campground to the library with free wifi, garage with $1 real coffee, pub with $8.90 excellent lunches and cheap bottle shops. Tomorrow Dave will try the dentist for a check and polish.
Fish and chips with a slice of bread-lovely. Tasman Hotel
Shark proof swimming area at the jetty will be tested as it may be 41degs tomorrow. As it was 20 yesterday this is hard to believe.
Port Licoln is said to have more millionaires as % of population than anywhere elsi in Aus mainly from Tuna fishing. We went to the marina and found lots of smart houses but the 4 garages was a highlight.

Melbourne Cup party at the campground was good followed by a great chat with our mate Peter in Melbourne. Good to have a phone signal again.
Visited the Lincoln National park which had beautiful clear seas and lovely beaches and a walk up Stamford Hill in the footsteps of Mathew Flinders (1802). Lots of snake tracks but happily no snakes.

Port Lincoln horse racing was more modest than the cup and a lot cheaper.

Friday Schools closed and total fire bans in place as heat forecast to peak at 44C in west coast town of Ceduna.
It is forecast to be 41 in Port Lincoln so we had better stay put today.

Saturday it is forecast to be 20degs and showery so time to head to Port Augusta and the Flinders Ranges. Still here on Monday. A lovely weekend, glad we stayed

Big sea lion. At first we thought it was a kangaroo.
He opened his eye as we walked near and then lifted his head as if to say " sunbathing, do not disturb"
During the weekend we went back to Coffin Bay and the national park. Fish and chips and oysters in the little town were delicious. Sunday was music time at the pub. Met Graham again. He always wears tall akubras and invited us for a barbie at his place. Lovely evening.
Monday morning and Dave is going back to the dentist to get his teeth stuck in again. Poor old bugger. Back from the dentist who has done a fantastic job. The sun is shining and we have time to buy some oysters from Austar. Fantastic Coffin Bay oysters $9.90 for 12. We also got 6 closed ones free with a voucher and a lesson in how to open them. Put in the butter type knife at 3 o clock open a little cut the muscle and open. Youngmi managed it. Oysters and white wine then strolled into town for dinner at the Tasman hotel.
Tuesday morning after 9 days at Port Lincoln time to move towards Wyhalla.
