New England Armidale and Bald Rock

Sunday morning in Armidale was grey, cold and with no leaves on the trees looked like it would snow.

Put $20 of the most expensive fuel so far in the car (1.79) and headed north. Rocks and trees and then sun. Glen Innes with Celtish standing stones was neat and sunny.

Tenterfield where Henry Parkes gave his Federation speech was an anticlimax with dismal campgrounds. Filled the car with cheaper Queensland price fuel (1.68)and drove to Bald Rock. Huge granite dome in the forest. Only one hour to walk up and down.

45mins to drive to Stanthorpe which may be the highest or coldest town in Queensland. Only camping spaces on campground as lots of cabins filled with Queens Birthday weekenders. Camp kitchen nice and warm and then tent OK with lots of clothes to sleep in.
Sunny next morning with a brief stop at Summit. Highest rail station in Queensland but nothing much there.
On to Warwick
